ہم سے مسدد نے بیان کیا، ہم سے یحییٰ نے شعبہ کی سند سے، زیاد بن مخراق سے، ابو نعامہ سے، ابن سعد کی سند سے، انہوں نے کہا
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ مِخْرَاقٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَعَامَةَ، عَنْ ابْنٍ لِسَعْدٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: سَمِعَنِي أَبِيوَأَنَا أَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَنَعِيمَهَا وَبَهْجَتَهَا، وَكَذَا، وَكَذَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَسَلَاسِلِهَا وَأَغْلَالِهَا، وَكَذَا، وَكَذَا، فَقَالَ: يَا بُنَيَّ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: سَيَكُونُ قَوْمٌ يَعْتَدُونَ فِي الدُّعَاءِ فَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنْهُمْ، إِنَّكَ إِنْ أُعْطِيتَ الْجَنَّةَ أُعْطِيتَهَا وَمَا فِيهَا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ، وَإِنْ أُعِذْتَ مِنَ النَّارِ أُعِذْتَ مِنْهَا وَمَا فِيهَا مِنَ الشَّرِّ.
English Translation
My father (Saad Ibn Abu Waqqas) heard me say: O Allah, I ask Thee for Paradise, its blessings, its pleasure and such-and-such, and such-and-such; I seek refuge in Thee from Hell, from its chains, from its collars, and from such-and-such, and from such-and-such. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say: There will be people who will exaggerate in supplication. You should not be one of them. If you are granted Paradise, you will be granted all what is good therein; if you are protected from Hell, you will be protected from what is evil therein.
Urdu Translation
میرے والد نے مجھے کہتے سنا: اے اللہ! میں تجھ سے جنت کا اور اس کی نعمتوں، لذتوں اور فلاں فلاں چیزوں کا سوال کرتا ہوں اور میں تیری پناہ مانگتا ہوں جہنم سے، اس کی زنجیروں سے، اس کے طوقوں سے اور فلاں فلاں بلاؤں سے، تو انہوں نے مجھ سے کہا: میرے بیٹے! میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا ہے: عنقریب کچھ لوگ ایسے ہوں گے جو دعاؤں میں مبالغہ اور حد سے تجاوز کریں گے، لہٰذا تم بچو کہ کہیں تم بھی ان میں سے نہ ہو جاؤ جب تمہیں جنت ملے گی تو اس کی ساری نعمتیں خود ہی مل جائیں گی اور اگر تم جہنم سے بچا لیے گئے تو اس کی تمام بلاؤں سے خودبخود بچا لئے جاؤ گے ۔

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ، عَنْ ابْنِ مُحَيْرِيزٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي كِنَانَةَ يُدْعَى الْمَخْدَجِيّ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا بِالشَّامِ يُدْعَى أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ، يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الْوِتْرَ وَاجِبٌ، قَالَ الْمَخْدَجِيُّ: فَرُحْتُ إِلَى عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَقَالَ عُبَادَةُ: كَذَبَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ كَتَبَهُنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَى الْعِبَادِ، فَمَنْ جَاءَ بِهِنَّ لَمْ يُضَيِّعْ مِنْهُنَّ شَيْئًا اسْتِخْفَافًا بِحَقِّهِنَّ كَانَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَهْدٌ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأْتِ بِهِنَّ فَلَيْسَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَهْدٌ إِنْ شَاءَ عَذَّبَهُ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ أَدْخَلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ .
A man from Banu Kinanah, named al-Makhdaji, heard a person called Abu Muhammad in Syria, saying: The witr is a duty (wajib). Al-Makhdaji said: So I went to Ubadah Ibn as-Samit رضی اللہ عنہ and informed him. Ubadah said: Abu Muhammad told a lie. I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say: There are five prayers which Allah has prescribed on His servants. If anyone offers them, not losing any of them, and not treating them lightly, Allah guarantees that He will admit him to Paradise. If anyone does not offer them, Allah does not take any responsibility for such a person. He may either punish him or admit him to Paradise.
Ibn Umar said:
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ، فَقَالَ بِأُصْبُعَيْهِ هَكَذَا: مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، وَالْوِتْرُ رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ .
A man who lived in the desert asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم about the prayer at night. He made a sing with his two fingers-in this way in pairs. The witr consists of one rak'ah towards the end in night.
Narrated Abu Ayyub al-Ansari رضی اللہ عنہ :
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، حَدَّثَنِي قُرَيْشُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الْعِجْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ وَائِلٍ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ، فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِخَمْسٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ، وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِثَلَاثٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ، وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ .
The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: The witr is a duty for every Muslim so if anyone wishes to observe it with five rak'ahs, he may do so; if anyone wishes to observe it with three, he may do so, and if anyone wishes to observe it with one, he may do so.
Narrated Ubayy Ibn Kab رضی اللہ عنہ :
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْأَبَّارُ. ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ وَهَذَا لَفْظُهُ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ،عَنْ طَلْحَةَ، وَزُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ بِ سَبِّحْ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَ قُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا و اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الصَّمَدُ.
The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم used to observe witr with (reciting) Glorify the name of thy Lord, the most High (Surah 87), Say O disbelievers (Surah 109), and Say, He is Allah, the One, Allah, the eternally besought of all (112).
