Narrated by Zaid bin Thabit رضی اللہ عنہ said:
ہم سے محمد بن مثنیٰ نے بیان کیا، ہم سے محمد بن جعفر نے بیان کیا، ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے عمرو بن ابی حکیم نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا: میں نے عروہ بن زبیر رضی اللہ عنہ سے زبیر رضی اللہ عنہ کو بیان کرتے ہوئے سنا , زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الزِّبْرِقَانَيُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةً أَشَدَّ عَلَى أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهَا، فَنَزَلَتْ: حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلاةِ الْوُسْطَى سورة البقرة آية 238، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ قَبْلَهَا صَلَاتَيْنِ وَبَعْدَهَا صَلَاتَيْنِ .
Urdu Translation
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ظہر دوپہر کو پڑھا کرتے تھے، اور کوئی نماز رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اصحاب پر اس سے زیادہ سخت نہ ہوتی تھی، تو یہ آیت نازل ہوئی :حافظوا على الصلوات والصلاة الوسطى ۱؎ زید نے کہا: بیشک اس سے پہلے دو نماز ہیں ( ایک عشاء کی، دوسری فجر کی ) اور اس کے بعد دو نماز ہیں ( ایک عصر کی دوسری مغرب کی ) ۔
English Translation
Meaning of the narration
The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم used to offer the Zuhr prayer in midday heat; and no prayer was harder on the Companions of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم that this one. Hence the revelation came down: Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer (2: 238). He (the narrator) said: There are two prayers before it and two prayers after it.
