Narrated by: It was narrated from Aishah رضی اللہ عنہا that:
ہم سے احمد بن الازہر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے آدم نے بیان کیا، ہم سے عیسیٰ بن میمون نے بیان کیا، القاسم کی سند سے, ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْأَزْهَرِ، حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: النِّكَاحُ مِنْ سُنَّتِي، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ بِسُنَّتِي فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي، وَتَزَوَّجُوا فَإِنِّي مُكَاثِرٌ بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ، وَمَنْ كَانَ ذَا طَوْلٍ فَلْيَنْكِحْ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصِّيَامِ، فَإِنَّ الصَّوْمَ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ .
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah said: “Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me. Get married, for I will boast of your great numbers before the nations. Whoever has the means, let him get married, and whoever does not, then he should fast for it will diminish his desire.”
Urdu Translation
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نکاح میری سنت اور میرا طریقہ ہے، تو جو میری سنت پہ عمل نہ کرے وہ مجھ سے نہیں ہے، تم لوگ شادی کرو، اس لیے کہ میں تمہاری کثرت کی وجہ سے دوسری امتوں پر ( قیامت کے دن ) فخر کروں گا، اور جو صاحب استطاعت ہوں شادی کریں، اور جس کو شادی کی استطاعت نہ ہو وہ روزے رکھے، اس لیے کہ روزہ اس کی شہوت کو کچلنے کا ذریعہ ہے ۔

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ بِمِنًى، فَخَلَا بِهِ عُثْمَانُ، فَجَلَسْتُ قَرِيبًا مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ: هَلْ لَكَ أَنْ أُزَوِّجَكَ جَارِيَةً بِكْرًا تُذَكِّرُكَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ بَعْضَ مَا قَدْ مَضَى؟، فَلَمَّا رَأَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ سِوَى هَذِهِ، أَشَارَ إِلَيَّ بِيَدِهِ فَجِئْتُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: لَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَلِكَ، لَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ، مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمُ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ، وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ .
“I was with Abdullah bin Masud رضی اللہ عنہ in Mina, and Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ took him aside. I was sitting near him. Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ said to him: 'Would you like that I marry you to a young virgin who will remind you of how you were in the past?' When Abdullah رضی اللہ عنہ saw that he did not say anything to him apart from that, he gestured to me, so I came and he said: 'As you say that the Messenger of Allah said “O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding one's chastity. Whoever cannot afford it, let him fast, for it will diminish his desire.” ' ”
It was narrated from Ibn Abbas رضی اللہ عنہما that:
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لَمْ نَرَ لِلْمُتَحَابَّيْنِ مِثْلَ النِّكَاحِ .
The Messenger of Allah said: “There is nothing like marriage, for two who love one another.”
It was narrated that: Sa'd رضی اللہ عنہ said:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: لَقَدْ رَدَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ التَّبَتُّلَ، وَلَوْ أَذِنَ لَهُ لَاخْتَصَيْنَا .
“The Messenger of Allah disapproved of Uthman bin Maz'un's رضی اللہ عنہ desire to remain celibate; if he had given him permission, we would have gotten ourselves castrated.”
It was narrated from Samurah رضی اللہ عنہ that:
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ آدَمَ، وَزَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: نَهَى عَنِ التَّبَتُّلِ ، زَادَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ، وَقَرَأَ قَتَادَةُ، وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً[ سورة الرعد آية 38] .
The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) forbade celibacy. Zaid bin Akhzam added: “And Qatadah recited: 'And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad (ﷺ)), and made for them wives and offspring.'”
