ہم سے محمد بن المثنی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یحییٰ بن سعید نے بیان کیا،ہشام نےکہا : ہم سے قتادہ نے حدیث بیان کی ، انھوں نے سالم بن ابی جعد سے اور انھوں نے حضرت معد ان بن ابی طلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی کہ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، خَطَبَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، فَذَكَرَ نَبِيَّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَذَكَرَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ قَالَ: إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ كَأَنَّ دِيكًا نَقَرَنِي ثَلَاثَ نَقَرَاتٍ، وَإِنِّي لَا أُرَاهُ إِلَّا حُضُورَ أَجَلِي، وَإِنَّ أَقْوَامًا يَأْمُرُونَنِي أَنَّ أَسْتَخْلِفَ، وَإِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيُضَيِّعَ دِينَهُ، وَلَا خِلَافَتَهُ، وَلَا الَّذِي بَعَثَ بِهِ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَإِنْ عَجِلَ بِي أَمْرٌ، فَالْخِلَافَةُ شُورَى بَيْنَ هَؤُلَاءِ السِّتَّةِ، الَّذِينَ تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عَنْهُمْ رَاضٍ، وَإِنِّي قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ أَقْوَامًا يَطْعَنُونَ فِي هَذَا الْأَمْرِ، أَنَا ضَرَبْتُهُمْ بِيَدِي هَذِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، فَإِنْ فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ فَأُولَئِكَ أَعْدَاءُ اللهِ، الْكَفَرَةُ الضُّلَّالُ، ثُمَّ إِنِّي لَا أَدَعُ بَعْدِي شَيْئًا أَهَمَّ عِنْدِي مِنَ الْكَلَالَةِ، مَا رَاجَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي شَيْءٍ مَا رَاجَعْتُهُ فِي الْكَلَالَةِ، وَمَا أَغْلَظَ لِي فِي شَيْءٍ مَا أَغْلَظَ لِي فِيهِ، حَتَّى طَعَنَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ فِي صَدْرِي، فَقَالَ: «يَا عُمَرُ أَلَا تَكْفِيكَ آيَةُ الصَّيْفِ الَّتِي فِي آخِرِ سُورَةِ النِّسَاءِ؟» وَإِنِّي إِنْ أَعِشْ أَقْضِ فِيهَا بِقَضِيَّةٍ، يَقْضِي بِهَا مِنْ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَمَنْ لَا يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُكَ عَلَى أُمَرَاءِ الْأَمْصَارِ، وَإِنِّي إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُهُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَعْدِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ، وَلِيُعَلِّمُوا النَّاسَ دِينَهُمْ، وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِمْ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَيَقْسِمُوا فِيهِمْ فَيْئَهُمْ، وَيَرْفَعُوا إِلَيَّ مَا أَشْكَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ، ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ، أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تَأْكُلُونَ شَجَرَتَيْنِ لَا أَرَاهُمَا إِلَّا خَبِيثَتَيْنِ، هَذَا الْبَصَلَ وَالثُّومَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِذَا وَجَدَ رِيحَهُمَا مِنَ الرَّجُلِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، أَمَرَ بِهِ فَأُخْرِجَ إِلَى الْبَقِيعِ، فَمَنْ أَكَلَهُمَا فَلْيُمِتْهُمَا طَبْخًا
English Translation
'Umar bin Khattab رضی اللہ عنہ , delivered the Friday sermon and he made a mention of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) and Abu Bakr. He (further) said: I saw in a dream that a cock pecked me twice, and I perceive that my death is near. Some people have suggested me to appoint my successor. And Allah would not destroy His religion. His caliphate and that with which He sent His Apostle ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) If death approaches me soon, the (issue) of Caliphate (would be decided) by the consent of these six men with whom the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) remained well pleased till his death. And I know fully well that some people would blame me that I killed with these very hands of mine some persons who apparently professed (Islam). And if they do this (blame me) they are the enemies of Allah, and are non-believers and have gone astray. And I leave not after me anything which to my mind seems more important than Kalala. And I never turned towards the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) (for guidance) more often than this Kalala, and he (the Holy Prophet) was not annoyed with me on any other (issue) than this: (And he was so perturbed) that he struck his fingers on my chest and said: Does this verse. that is at the end of Surat al-Nisa'. which was revealed in the hot season not suffice you? And if I live longer I would decide this (problem so clearly) that one who reads the Qur'an, or one who does not read it, would be able to take (correct), decisions (under its light). He ('Umar) further said: Allah! I call You witness on these governors of lands, that I sent them to (the peoples of these lands) so that they should administer justice amongst them, teach them their religion and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ), and distribute amongst them the spoils of war and refer to me that which they find difficult to perform. O people. you eat 'these two plants and these are onions and garlic. and I find them nothing but repugnant for I saw that when the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) sensed the odour of these two from a person in a mosque, he was made to go to al-Baqi'. So he who eats it should (make its odour) die by cooking it well.
Urdu Translation
عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے جمعے کے دن خطبہ دیا اور نبی اکرم ﷺ اور ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کا تذکرہ کیا ، کہا : میں نے خواب دیکھا ہے ، جیسے ایک مرغ نے مجھے تین ٹھونگیں ماری ہیں اور اس کو میں اپنی موت قریب آنے کے سوا اور کچھ نہیں سمجھتا ۔ اور کچھ قبائل مجھ سے مطالبہ کر رہے ہیں کہ میں کسی کو اپنا جانشین بنادو ں ۔ بلا شبہ اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے دین کو ضائع نہیں ہونے دے گا ، نہ اپنی خلافت کو اور نہ اس شریعت کو جس کے ساتھ اس نے اپنے نبی ﷺ کو مبعوث فرمایا ۔ اگر مجھے جلد موت آجائے تو خلافت ان چھ حضرات کے باہیم مشورے سے طے ہو گی جن سے رسول اللہ ﷺ اپنی وفات کے وقت خوش تھے ۔ اور میں جانتا ہوں کہ کچھ لوگ جن کو میں نے اسلام کی خاطر اپنے اس ہاتھ سے مارا ہے ، وہ اس امر ( خلافت ) پر اعتراض کریں گے ، اگر وہ ایسا کریں گے تو وہ اللہ کے دشمن ، کافر اور گمراہ ہوں گے ، پھر میں اپنے بعد جو ( حل طلب ) چیزیں چھوڑ کر جارہا ر ہوں ان میں سے میرے نزدیک کلالہ کی وراثت کےمسئلے سے بڑھ کر کوئی مسئلہ زیادہ اہم نہیں ۔ میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے کسی مسئلے کے بارے میں اتنی دفعہ رجوع نہیں کیا جتنی دفعہ کلالہ کے بارے میں کیا اور آپ نے ( بھی ) میرے ساتھ کسی مسئلے میں اس قدر سختی نہیں برتی جتنی میرے ساتھ آپ نے اس مسئلے میں سختی کی حتیٰ کہ آپ نے انگلی میرے سینے میں چبھو کر فرمایا : ’’اے عمر ! کیا گرمی کے موسم میں اترنے والی آیت تمھارے لیے کافی نہیں جو سورۃ نساء کے آخر میں ہے ؟ ‘ ‘ میں اگر زندہ رہا تو میں اس مسئلے ( کلالہ ) کے بارے میں ایسا فیصلہ کروں گا کہ ( ہر انسان ) جو قرآن پڑھتا ہے یا نہیں پڑھتا ہے اس کے مطابق فیصلہ کر سکے گا ، پھر آپ نے فرمایا : اے اللہ ! میں شہروں کے گورنرون کے بارے میں تجھے گواہ بناتا ہوں کہ میں نے لوگوں پر انھیں صرف اس لیے مقرر کر کے بھیجا کہ وہ ان سے انصاف کریں اور لوگوں کو ان کے دین اور ان کے نبی ﷺ کی سنت کی تعلیم دیں اور ان کے اموال فے ان میں تقسیم کریں اور اگر لوگوں کے معاملات میں انھیں کوئی مشکل پیش آئے تو اسے میرے سامنے پیش کریں ۔ پھر اے لوگو! تم دو پودے کھا تے ہو ، میں انھیں ( بو کے اعتبار سے ) برے پودے ہی سمجھتا ہوں ، یہ پیاز اور لہسن ہیں ۔ میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو دیکھا ، جب مسجد میں آپ کو کسی آدمی سے ان کی بوآتی تو آپ اسے بقیع کی طرف نکال دینے کا حکم صادر فرماتے ، لہذا جو شخص انھیں کھانا چاہتا ہے وہ انھیں پکاکر ان کی بو مار دے ۔

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، ح قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: أَيُّ مَسْجِدٍ وُضِعَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَوَّلُ؟ قَالَ: «الْمَسْجِدُ الْحَرَامُ» قُلْتُ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: «الْمَسْجِدُ الْأَقْصَى» قُلْتُ: كَمْ بَيْنَهُمَا؟ قَالَ: «أَرْبَعُونَ سَنَةً، وَأَيْنَمَا أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلِّ فَهُوَ مَسْجِدٌ» وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي كَامِلٍ «ثُمَّ حَيْثُمَا أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلِّهِ، فَإِنَّهُ مَسْجِدٌ».
I said: Messenger of Allah, which mosque was set up first on the earth? He said: Al-Masjid al-Haram (the sacred). I (again) said: Then which next? He said: It was the Masjid Aqsa. I (again) said: How long the space of time (between their setting up)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: It was forty years. And whenever the time comes for prayer, pray there, for that is a mosque; and in the hadith transmitted by Abu Kamil (the words are): Whenever time comes for prayer, pray, for that is a mosque (for you).
Ibrahim bin Yazid al-Tayml reported:
حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ التَّيْمِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَقْرَأُ عَلَى أَبِي الْقُرْآنَ فِي السُّدَّةِ، فَإِذَا قَرَأْتُ السَّجْدَةَ سَجَدَ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: يَا أَبَتِ، أَتَسْجُدُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ؟ قَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ: سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أَوَّلِ مَسْجِدٍ وُضِعَ فِي الْأَرْضِ؟ قَالَ «الْمَسْجِدُ الْحَرَامُ» قُلْتُ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: «الْمَسْجِدُ الْأَقْصَى» قُلْتُ: كَمْ بَيْنَهُمَا؟ قَالَ: «أَرْبَعُونَ عَامًا، ثُمَّ الْأَرْضُ لَكَ مَسْجِدٌ، فَحَيْثُمَا أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلِّ».
I used to read the Qur'an with my father in the vestibule (before the door of the mosque). When I recited the ayat (verses) concerning prostration, he prostrated himself. I said to him: Father, do you prostrate yourself in the path? He said: I heard Abu Dharr saying: I asked the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) about the mosque that was first set up on the earth. He said: Masjid Harim. I said: Then which next? He said: The Masjid al-Aqsa. I said: How long is the space of time between the two? He said: Forty years. He (then) further said: The earth is a mosque for you, so wherever you are at the time of prayer, pray there.
Jabir bin 'Abdullah al-Ansari رضی اللہ عنہما reported:
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ سَيَّارٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ الْفَقِيرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أُعْطِيتُ خَمْسًا لَمْ يُعْطَهُنَّ أَحَدٌ قَبْلِي، كَانَ كُلُّ نَبِيٍّ يُبْعَثُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ خَاصَّةً، وَبُعِثْتُ إِلَى كُلِّ أَحْمَرَ وَأَسْوَدَ، وَأُحِلَّتْ لِيَ الْغَنَائِمُ، وَلَمْ تُحَلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي، وَجُعِلَتْ لِيَ الْأَرْضُ طَيِّبَةً طَهُورًا وَمَسْجِدًا، فَأَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ صَلَّى حَيْثُ كَانَ، وَنُصِرْتُ بِالرُّعْبِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ مَسِيرَةِ شَهْرٍ، وَأُعْطِيتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ».
The Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: I have been conferred upon five (things) which were not granted to anyone before me (and these are): Every apostle wassent particularly to his own people, whereas I have been sent to all the red and the black the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, and these were never made lawful to anyone before me, and the earth has been made sacred and pure and mosque for me, so whenever the time of prayer comes for any one of you he should pray whenever he is, and I have been supported by awe (by which the enemy is overwhelmed) from the distance (which one takes) one month to cover and I have been granted intercession.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا سَيَّارٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ الْفَقِيرُ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ.
Jabir bin 'Abdullah related that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said, and he related like this.
