ہم سے ابو کریب نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا, ابو معاویہ نے اعمش سے ، انھوں نے ابو وائل سے روایت کی ، انھوں نے کہا

و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُقَالُ لَهُ نَهِيكُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ عَلْقَمَةُ لِيَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهِ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ سَلْهُ عَنْ النَّظَائِرِ الَّتِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بِهَا فِي رَكْعَةٍ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَسَأَلَهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ عِشْرُونَ سُورَةً مِنْ الْمُفَصَّلِ فِي تَأْلِيفِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ.
English Translation
A person came to 'Abdullah, who was called Nahik bin Sinan, and the rest of the hadith is the same but for this: Alqama came to him ('Abdullah bin Mas'ud رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) and we said to him: Ask him about the manners in which he combined (two surahs) in one rak'ah. So he went to him and asked him and then came to us and said: Twenty are the mufassal surahs in the compilation (of the Qur'an) made by 'Abdullah رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ .
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ کے پاس ایک آدمی آیا جسے نہیک بن سنان کہا جاتا تھا ۔ ۔ ۔ ( آگے ) وکیع کی روایت کے مانند ہے ، مگر انھوں نے کہا : علقمہ حضرت عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پاس ( گھر کے اندر ) حاضری دینے آئے تو ہم نے ان سے کہا : حضرت عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے ان باہم ملتی جلتی سورتوں کے بارے میں پوچھیں جو ر سول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک رکعت میں پڑھتے تھے ۔ وہ ان کے پاس اندر چلے گئے اور ان سورتوں کے بارے میں ان سے پوچھا ، پھر ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے اوربتایا ، وہ حضرت عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ( کے مصحف ) کی ترتیب کے مطابق مفصل بیس سورتیں ہیں ( جنھیں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) دس رکعتوں میں ( پڑھتے تھے ۔ )

A'isha رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا reported:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا يَقْرَأُ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ يَرْحَمُهُ اللَّهُ لَقَدْ أَذْكَرَنِي كَذَا وَكَذَا آيَةً كُنْتُ أَسْقَطْتُهَا مِنْ سُورَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا.
The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) heard a person reciting the Qur'an at night. Upon this he said: May Allah show mercy to him; he has reminded me of such and such a verse which I had missed in such and such a surah.
A'isha رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا reported:
و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَمِعُ قِرَاءَةَ رَجُلٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ لَقَدْ أَذْكَرَنِي آيَةً كُنْتُ أُنْسِيتُهَا.
The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) listened to the recitation of the Qur'an by a man in the mosque. Thereupon he said: May Allah have mercy upon him; be reminded me of the verse which I had been made to forget.
Abdullah bin 'Umar reported:
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ كَمَثَلِ الْإِبِلِ الْمُعَقَّلَةِ إِنْ عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهَا أَمْسَكَهَا وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ.
Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying: The example of a man who has memorised the Qur'an is like that of a hobbled camel. If he remained vigilant, he would be able to retain it (with him), and if he loosened the hobbled camel it would escape.
This hadith has been narrated by Ibn 'Umar رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ from the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ), but in the hadith transmited by Musa bin 'Uqba, this addition is made:
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَقَ الْمُسَيَّبِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيَاضٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ وَإِذَا قَامَ صَاحِبُ الْقُرْآنِ فَقَرَأَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ذَكَرَهُ وَإِذَا لَمْ يَقُمْ بِهِ نَسِيَهُ.
When one who had committed the Qur'an to memory (or who is familiar with it) gets up (for night prayer) and recites it night and day, it remains fresh in his mind, but if he does not get up (for prayer and thus does not recite it) he forgets it.
