Narrated by: Abu Zubair is reported to have heard Jabir bin 'Abdullah رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ as saying:
مجھ سے ہارون بن عبداللہ اور حجاج بن الشاعر نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے حجاج بن محمد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ابن جریج ، ابو زبیر ، حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، وَحَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، يَقُولُ: اعْتَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِسَاءَهُ شَهْرًا، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا صَبَاحَ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّمَا أَصْبَحْنَا لِتِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّ الشَّهْرَ يَكُونُ تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ ثُمَّ طَبَّقَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا: مَرَّتَيْنِ بِأَصَابِعِ يَدَيْهِ كُلِّهَا، وَالثَّالِثَةَ بِتِسْعٍ مِنْهَا.
English Translation
The Apostle of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) separated himself from his wives for a month. (His wives said: ) He came to us on the morning of the twenty-ninth. Upon this some, of the people said: It is the morning of twenty- ninth (according to our calculation). Upon this the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: The month. may also consist of twenty-nine days. The Apostle of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) then flapped his bands thrice, twice with all the fingers of both his hand (to indicate twenty-nine) and by the third time with nine (fingers).
Urdu Translation
نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی ازواج مطہرات سے ایک مہینہ تک علیحدہ رہے انتیس دن گزر جانے کے بعد آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہماری طرف صبح کے وقت تشریف لائے تو کچھ لوگوں نے آپ سے عرض کیا اے اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم !آپ انتیس دنوں کے بعد تشریف لے آئے؟ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنے ہاتھوں کو تین مرتبہ ملایا دو مرتبہ اپنے ہاتھوں کی ساری انگلیوں کے ساتھ اور تیسری مرتبہ میں نو انگلیوں کے ساتھ.

Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying: When there comes the month of Ramadan, the gates of mercy are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained,
Abu Huraira رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ reported:
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا كَانَ رَمَضَانُ فُتِّحَتْ أَبْوَابُ الرَّحْمَةِ، وَغُلِّقَتْ أَبْوَابُ جَهَنَّمَ، وَسُلْسِلَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ».
Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying: When it is the month of Ramadan, the gates of mercy are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained.
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، وَالْحُلْوَانِيُّ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعُ بْنُ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا دَخَلَ رَمَضَانُ» بِمِثْلِهِ.
This hadith is reported by Abu Huraira (with a slight alteration of words) that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: When (the month of) Ramadan begins.
Ibn Umar رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ reported
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ: «لَا تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوُا الْهِلَالَ، وَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ».
Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying in connection with Ramadan: Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fast till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it.
