حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ - عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم غَزَا خَيْبَرَ قَالَ فَصَلَّيْنَا عِنْدَهَا صَلاَةَ الْغَدَاةِ بِغَلَسٍ فَرَكِبَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَرَكِبَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَأَنَا رَدِيفُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فَأَجْرَى نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي زُقَاقِ خَيْبَرَ وَإِنَّ رُكْبَتِي لَتَمَسُّ فَخِذَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَانْحَسَرَ الإِزَارُ عَنْ فَخِذِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَإِنِّي لأَرَى بَيَاضَ فَخِذِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ الْقَرْيَةَ قَالَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ خَرِبَتْ خَيْبَرُ إِنَّا إِذَا نَزَلْنَا بِسَاحَةِ قَوْمٍ فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ . قَالَهَا ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ وَقَدْ خَرَجَ الْقَوْمُ إِلَى أَعْمَالِهِمْ فَقَالُوا مُحَمَّدٌ وَاللَّهِ . قَالَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ وَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَالْخَمِيسُ . قَالَ وَأَصَبْنَاهَا عَنْوَةً وَجُمِعَ السَّبْىُ فَجَاءَهُ دِحْيَةُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطِنِي جَارِيَةً مِنَ السَّبْىِ . فَقَالَ اذْهَبْ فَخُذْ جَارِيَةً . فَأَخَذَ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَىٍّ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَعْطَيْتَ دِحْيَةَ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَىٍّ سَيِّدِ قُرَيْظَةَ وَالنَّضِيرِ مَا تَصْلُحُ إِلاَّ لَكَ . قَالَ ادْعُوهُ بِهَا . قَالَ فَجَاءَ بِهَا فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ خُذْ جَارِيَةً مِنَ السَّبْىِ غَيْرَهَا . قَالَ وَأَعْتَقَهَا وَتَزَوَّجَهَا . فَقَالَ لَهُ ثَابِتٌ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ مَا أَصْدَقَهَا قَالَ نَفْسَهَا أَعْتَقَهَا وَتَزَوَّجَهَا حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِالطَّرِيقِ جَهَّزَتْهَا لَهُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ فَأَهْدَتْهَا لَهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَأَصْبَحَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَرُوسًا فَقَالَ مَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ شَىْءٌ فَلْيَجِئْ بِهِ قَالَ وَبَسَطَ نِطَعًا قَالَ فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ بِالأَقِطِ وَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ بِالتَّمْرِ وَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ بِالسَّمْنِ فَحَاسُوا حَيْسًا . فَكَانَتْ وَلِيمَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم .
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah launched a compaign against Khabar. "We prayed Al-Ghndah (Fajr) there when it was still dark, then the prophet of Allah ﷺ rode and Talhah rode, and I was seated behind Abu Talhah (on his mount). The prophet let ﷺ let his mount run through the narrow street of Khaibar, and my knee was touching the thigh of the prophet of Allah ﷺ. The Izar slipped from the thigh of the prophet of Allah ﷺ and I could see the whiteness of the thigh of the prophet of Allah ﷺ. When he entered the town, he said: Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). Khaibar is ruined. And when we get down in the valley of a people evil is the morning of the warned ones. He repeated it thrice. In the meanwhile the people went out for their work, and said: By Allah, Muhammad (has come). Abdul-'Aziz or some of our companions said: Muhammad and the army (have come). He said: We took it (the territory of Khaibar) by force, and there were gathered the prisoners of war. There came Dihya and he said: Messenger of Allah, bestow upon me a girl from among the prisoners. He said: Go and get any girl. He made a choice for Safiyya daughter of Huyayy (bin Akhtab). There came a person to Allah's Apostle ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) and said: Apostle of Allah, you have bestowed Safiyya bint Huyayy, the chief of Quraiza and al-Nadir, upon Dihya and she is worthy of you only. He said: Call him along with her. So he came along with her. When Allah's Apostle ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) saw her he said: Take any other woman from among the prisoners. He (the narrator) said: He (the Holy Prophet) then granted her emancipation and married her. Thabit said to him: Abu Hamza, how much dower did he (the Holy Prophet) give to her? He said: He granted her freedom and then married her. On the way Umm Sulaim embellished her and then sent her to him (the Holy Prophet) at night. Allah's Apostle ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) appeared as a bridegroom in the morning. He (the Holy Prophet) said: He who has anything (to eat) should bring that. Then the cloth was spread. A person came with cheese, another came with dates, and still another came with refined butter, and they prepared hais and that was the wedding feast of Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم )
Urdu Translation
رسول اﷲ ﷺ نے جہاد کیا خیبر پر او رہم لوگوں نے وہاں نماز پڑھی صبح کی بہت اندھریے میں اور سوار ہوئے نبی ﷺ او رسوار ہوئے ابوطلحہٰ ؓ اور میں ردیف تھا ابوطلحہ کا اور روانہ ہوئے نبی ﷺ گلیوں میں خیبر کی اور میرا زانو نبیﷺ کے ران سے لگ لگ جاتا تھا اور تہبند رسول اﷲ ﷺ کی آپ کی ران سے کھسک گئی تھی او رمیں دیکھتا سفیدی آپ کی ران کی پھر جب شہر کے اندر گئے آپ نے فرمایا اکبر خراب ہوا خیبر ہم جب اترتے ہیں کسی قوم کے انگن میں تو برا ہوتا ہے حال ڈرائے گئے لوگوں کا ۔ اس آیت کو آپ نے تین بار پڑھا یعنی انا اذا نزلنا بساحۃ قوم سے اخیر تک اور اتنے میں وہاں کے لوگ اپنے اپنے کاموں میں نکلے اور انہوں نے کہا کہ محمد ﷺ آچکے ۔ اور عبدالعزیز نے کہا کہ ہمارے لوگوں نے یہ بھی کہا کہ لشکر بھی آگیا ۔ کہا راوی نے کہ غرض ہم نے لے لیا خیبر کو جبراً قہراً اور قیدی لوگ جمع کیے گئے اور دحیہ آئے اور عرص کی کہ یا رسول اﷲؐ! ایک لونڈی مجھے عنایت کیجیے ان قیدیوںمیںسے ۔ آپ نے فرمایا کہ جاؤ ایک لونڈی لے لو ۔ انہوں نے صفیہ بنت حیی کو لے لیا اور ایک شخص نے آکے کہا کہ اے نبی اﷲ تعالیٰ کے آپ نے دحیہ کو حیی کی بیٹی دیدی جو سردار ہے بنی قریظہ اور بنی نضیر کا اور وہ کسی کے لائق نہیں سوا آپ کے تو فرمایا کہ بلاؤ ان کو مع اس لونڈی کے ۔ کہا راوی نے کہ پھر وہ اسے لے کر آئے پھر جب آپ نے اس کو دیکھا تو دحیہ سے فرمایا کہ تم کوئی اور لونڈی لے لو قیدیوں میں سے اس کے سوا ۔ کہا راوی نے کہ پھر آپ نے آزاد کیا صفیہؓ کو اور ان سے نکاح کرلیا سو ثابت نے ان سے کہا کہ اے ابوحمزہ! ان کا مہر کیا باندھا انہوں نے؟ کہا یہی مرہ تھا کہ ان کو آزاد کردیا اور نکاح کرلیا یہاں تک کہ پھر جب وہ را میں تھے تو سنگار کردیا ان کا ام سلیمؓ نے اور پیش کردیا آپ پر ان کو رات میں اور صبح کو رسول اﷲﷺ نوشہ بنے ہوئے تھے ۔ پھر فرمایا اپ نے جس کے پاس جو کچھ ہو ( یعنی کھانے کی قسم سے ) وہ لائے او رایک دستر خوان چمڑے کا بچھا دیا اور کوئی اقط لانے لگا ( دہی سکھا کر بناتے ہیں ) اور کوئی کھجور او رکوئی گھی ان سب کو توڑ تاڑ کر خوب ملایا اور یہ ولیمہ ہوا رسول اﷲ ﷺ کا ۔

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بِمِنًى، فَلَقِيَهُ عُثْمَانُ، فَقَامَ مَعَهُ يُحَدِّثُهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَلَا نُزَوِّجُكَ جَارِيَةً شَابَّةً، لَعَلَّهَا تُذَكِّرُكَ بَعْضَ مَا مَضَى مِنْ زَمَانِكَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: لَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ، لَقَدْ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ، مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمُ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ، وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَا.
While I was walking with 'Abdullah at Mina, 'Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ happened to meet him. He stopped there and began to talk with him. Uthman said to him: Abu 'Abdul-Rahman, should we not marry you to a young girl who may recall to you some of the past of your bygone days; thereupon he said: If you say so, Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said: O young men, those among you who can support a wife should marry, for it restrains eyes from casting (evil glances). and preserves one from immorality; but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting for it is a means of controlling sexual desire.
Alqama reported:
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ بِمِنًى، إِذْ لَقِيَهُ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ، فَقَالَ: هَلُمَّ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: فَاسْتَخْلَاهُ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى عَبْدُ اللهِ أَنْ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي: تَعَالَ يَا عَلْقَمَةُ، قَالَ: فَجِئْتُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ: أَلَا نُزَوِّجُكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ جَارِيَةً بِكْرًا، لَعَلَّهُ يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ مَا كُنْتَ تَعْهَدُ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: لَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ، فَذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ.
While I was going along with 'Abdullah bin Ma'sud (رضی اللہ عنہ) in Mina, 'Uthman bin 'Affan (رضی اللہ عنہ) happened to meet him and said: Come here, Abu 'Abdul-Rahman (kunya of Abdullah bin Mas'ud), and he isolated him (from me), and when 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) رضی اللہ عنہ saw that there was no need (for this privacy), he said to me: 'Alqama, come on, and so I went there. (Then) 'Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ said to him: Abu Abdul-Rahman, should we not marry you to a virgin girl that your past may be recalled to your mind? 'Abdullah رضی اللہ عنہ said: If you say so, the rest of the hadith is the same as narrated above.
Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) ( رضی اللہ عنہ) reported:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ، مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمُ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ، وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ».
Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said to us: O young men, those among you who can support a wife should marry, for it restrains eyes (from casting evil glances) and preserves one from immorality; but he who cannot afford It should observe fast for it is a means of controlling the sexual desire.
Abu al-Rahman bin Yazid said:
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَعَمِّي عَلْقَمَةُ، وَالْأَسْوَدُ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: وَأَنَا شَابٌّ يَوْمَئِذٍ، فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثًا رُئِيتُ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَ بِهِ مِنْ أَجْلِي، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَزَادَ قَالَ: فَلَمْ أَلْبَثْ حَتَّى تَزَوَّجْتُ.
I and my uncle 'Alqama and al-Aswad went to 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضی اللہ عنہ). He (the narrator further) said: I was at that time young, and he narrated a hadith which it seemed he narrated for me that Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said like one transmitted by Mu'awiya, and further added: I lost no time in marrying.
