Narrated by: It was narrated that Ka'b bin 'Ujrah رضی اللہ عنہ said:
ہم سے قاسم بن زکریا نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے حسین نے زید کی سند سے، سلیمان کی سند سے، الحکم کی سند سے، عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی لیلیٰ سے, کعب بن عجرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ
Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ قَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ فَكَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْكَ، قَالَ: قُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ: وَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ: وَعَلَيْنَا مَعَهُمْ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ: وَهَذَا أَوْلَى بِالصَّوَابِ مِنَ الَّذِي قَبْلَهُ، وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا قَالَ فِيهِ عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ غَيْرَ هَذَا، وَاللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ.
English Translation
'We said: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we know about sending salams upon you, but how should we send salah upon you? He said: 'Say: Alahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala ali Muhammad, kama sallaita 'ala Ibrahima wa barik 'ala Muhammad kama barakta 'ala ali Ibrahim fil-'alamin, innaka hamidun majid (O Allah, send salah upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent salah upon the family of Ibrahim, and send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim among the nations. You are indeed Worthy of praise, Full of glory.)' (One of the narrators) 'abdur Rahman said: We used to say: 'And also upon us.' Abu Abdur-rahman (An Nasa'i) said: This is more worthy of being correct than the one that is before it. And we do not know of anyone who said Amr bin Murrah in it other than in this case. And Allah (SWT) knows best.
Urdu Translation
ہم نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ پر سلام بھیجنے کو ہم جان چکے ہیں مگر آپ پر صلاۃ ( درود ) کس طرح بھیجیں؟ تو آپ نے فرمایا: کہو «اللہم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وآل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد وبارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم وآل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد» اے اللہ! تو صلاۃ ( درود ) بھیج محمد اور آل محمد پر اسی طرح جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم اور آل ابراہیم پر بھیجا ہے، یقیناً تو حمید و مجید یعنی قابل تعریف اور بزرگ ہے، اور برکتیں نازل فرما محمد اور آل محمد پر اسی طرح جیسے تو نے ابراہیم اور آل ابراہیم پر نازل فرمائی ہیں، یقیناً تو حمید و مجید یعنی قابل تعریف اور بزرگ ہے ۔ عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی لیلیٰ کہتے ہیں: اور ہم «وعلينا معهم» اور ان لوگوں کے ساتھ ہم پر بھی بھی کہتے تھے۔ ابوعبدالرحمٰن نسائی کہتے ہیں: یہ سند اس سے پہلے والی سے زیادہ قرین صواب ہے ( یعنی عمرو کی جگہ حکم کا ہونا ) اور ہم قاسم کے علاوہ کسی اور کو نہیں جانتے جس نے عمرو بن مرہ کا ذکر کیا ہو، «واللہ اعلم» ۔

It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Asamm said:
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ التَّكْبِيرِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَقَالَ: يُكَبِّرُ إِذَا رَكَعَ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ السُّجُودِ، وَإِذَا قَامَ مِنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ حُطَيْمٌ عَمَّنْ تَحْفَظُ هَذَا، فَقَالَ: عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ حُطَيْمٌ: وَعُثْمَانُ، قَالَ: وَعُثْمَانُ.
Anas bin Malik رضی اللہ عنہ was asked about the takbir in the prayer. He said: The takbir should be said when bowing, when prostrating, when raising one's head from prostration and when standing up following the first two rak'ahs.' Hutaim said: 'From whom did you learn this?' He said: 'From the Prophet (ﷺ), Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them.' Then he fell silent and Hutaim said to him: 'And 'Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ ?' He said: 'And 'Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ .'
It was narrated that Mutarrif bin 'Abdullah said:
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلَانُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: صَلَّى عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، فَكَانَ يُكَبِّرُ فِي كُلِّ خَفْضٍ وَرَفْعٍ يُتِمُّ التَّكْبِيرَ ، فَقَالَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ: لَقَدْ ذَكَّرَنِي هَذَا صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Ali bin Abi Talib رضی اللہ عنہ prayed, and he said the takbir every time he went down and came up, in all movements of the prayer. 'Imran bin Husain رضی اللہ عنہما said: 'This reminds me of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).'
It was narrated from Abu Humaid As-Sa'idi رضی اللہ عنہ that:
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ، كَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يُحَاذِيَ بِهِمَا مَنْكِبَيْهِ كَمَا صَنَعَ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ .
When the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up following two prostrations, he would say the takbir and raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, as he had done at the beginning of the prayer.
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar رضی اللہ عنہم that :
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ، وَإِذَا قَامَ مِنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ كَذَلِكَ حَذْوَ الْمَنْكِبَيْنِ .
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to raise his hands when he began to pray, when he wanted to bow, when he raised his head from bowing, and when he stood up after the first two rak'ahs, he would raise his hands likewise, level with his shoulders.
