The Book of Forgetfulness (In Prayer)

Narrated by: Hanzalah bin 'Ali narrated that: Mihjan bin Al-Adra' رضی اللہ عنہ narrated to him that:
ہم سے عمرو بن یزید ابوبرید البصری نے عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث کی سند سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا: ہم سے میرے والد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا: ہم سے حسین المعلم نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے ابن بریدہ سے، انہوں نے کہا: مجھ سے حنظلہ بن علی نے بیان کیا, محجن بن ادرع رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَبُو بُرَيْدٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ، عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَّ مِحْجَنَ بْنَ الْأَدْرَعِ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ، إِذَا رَجُلٌ قَدْ قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ وَهُوَ يَتَشَهَّدُ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ يَا أَللَّهُ بِأَنَّكَ الْوَاحِدُ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ، الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ، أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: قَدْ غُفِرَ لَهُ ثَلَاثًا .
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the masjid and there was a man who had finished his prayer and he was reciting the tashahhud. He said: Allahumma inni as'aluka ya Allah! Bi-annakal-Wahidul-Ahad us-Samad, alladhi lam yalid wa lam yowled, wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad, an taghfirali dhunubi, innaka antal-Ghafurur-Rahim (O Allah, I ask of You, O Allah, as You are the One, the Only, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who begets not nor was He begotten, and there is None equal or comparable to Him, forgive me my sins, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.) The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He has been forgiven, three times.
Urdu Translation
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسجد میں گئے، تو دیکھا کہ ایک آدمی اپنی نماز پوری کر چکا ہے، اور تشہد میں ہے اور کہہ رہا ہے:«اللہم إني أسألك يا اللہ بأنك الواحد الأحد الصمد الذي لم يلد ولم يولد ولم يكن له كفوا أحد أن تغفر لي ذنوبي إنك أنت الغفور الرحيم» اے اللہ! میں تجھ سے مانگتا ہوں، اے اللہ تجھی سے، اس لیے کہ تو ہی ایک ایسا تن تنہا بے نیاز ہے جس نے نہ تو کسی کو جنا ہے، اور نہ ہی وہ جنا گیا ہے، اور نہ ہی اس کا کوئی ہمسر ہے، لہٰذا تو میرے گناہوں کو بخش دے، تو ہی غفور و رحیم یعنی بخشنے والا اور رحم کرنے والا ہے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تین بار فرمایا: اس کے گناہ بخش دیے گئے ۔

It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Asamm said:
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ التَّكْبِيرِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَقَالَ: يُكَبِّرُ إِذَا رَكَعَ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ السُّجُودِ، وَإِذَا قَامَ مِنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ حُطَيْمٌ عَمَّنْ تَحْفَظُ هَذَا، فَقَالَ: عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ حُطَيْمٌ: وَعُثْمَانُ، قَالَ: وَعُثْمَانُ.
Anas bin Malik رضی اللہ عنہ was asked about the takbir in the prayer. He said: The takbir should be said when bowing, when prostrating, when raising one's head from prostration and when standing up following the first two rak'ahs.' Hutaim said: 'From whom did you learn this?' He said: 'From the Prophet (ﷺ), Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them.' Then he fell silent and Hutaim said to him: 'And 'Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ ?' He said: 'And 'Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ .'
It was narrated that Mutarrif bin 'Abdullah said:
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلَانُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: صَلَّى عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، فَكَانَ يُكَبِّرُ فِي كُلِّ خَفْضٍ وَرَفْعٍ يُتِمُّ التَّكْبِيرَ ، فَقَالَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ: لَقَدْ ذَكَّرَنِي هَذَا صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Ali bin Abi Talib رضی اللہ عنہ prayed, and he said the takbir every time he went down and came up, in all movements of the prayer. 'Imran bin Husain رضی اللہ عنہما said: 'This reminds me of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).'
It was narrated from Abu Humaid As-Sa'idi رضی اللہ عنہ that:
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ، كَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يُحَاذِيَ بِهِمَا مَنْكِبَيْهِ كَمَا صَنَعَ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ .
When the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up following two prostrations, he would say the takbir and raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, as he had done at the beginning of the prayer.
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar رضی اللہ عنہم that :
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ، وَإِذَا قَامَ مِنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ كَذَلِكَ حَذْوَ الْمَنْكِبَيْنِ .
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to raise his hands when he began to pray, when he wanted to bow, when he raised his head from bowing, and when he stood up after the first two rak'ahs, he would raise his hands likewise, level with his shoulders.
