Narrated by It was narrated that Hafsah رضی اللہ عنہا said:

ہمیں قتیبہ نے مالک کی سند سے، ابن شہاب کی سند سے، سائب بن یزید کی سند سے، المطلب بن ابی وداع کی سند سے, ام المؤمنین حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَفْصَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي سُبْحَتِهِ قَاعِدًا قَطُّ حَتَّى كَانَ قَبْلَ وَفَاتِهِ بِعَامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا يَقْرَأُ بِالسُّورَةِ فَيُرَتِّلُهَا حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَطْوَلَ مِنْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا .

Urdu Translation

اردو

میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کبھی بیٹھ کر نفل پڑھتے نہیں دیکھا یہاں تک کہ اپنی وفات سے ایک سال قبل آپ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے لگے تھے، آپ سورت پڑھتے تو اتنا ٹھہر ٹھہر کر پڑھتے کہ وہ طویل سے طویل تر ہو جاتی۔

English Translation

Meaning of the narration

I never saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) offer his voluntary prayers sitting down until one year before his death. Then he used to pray sitting down, reciting the surah so slowly that it seemed to be longer than a surah that is longer.
