مجھ سے ابراہیم بن یعقوب نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہم سے سعید بن شبیب ابو عثمان نے، جو طرسو س کے صالح شیخ تھے، بیان کیا، کہا: ہمیں ابن ابی زیدہ نے حسین بن حارث الجدلی کی سند سے خبر دی، عبدالرحمٰن بن زید بن خطاب سے روایت ہے کہ

أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ وَكَانَ شَيْخًا صَالِحًا بِطَرَسُوسَ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْجَدَلِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، أَنَّهُ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فِي الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي يُشَكُّ فِيهِ، فَقَالَ: أَلَا إِنِّي جَالَسْتُ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَسَاءَلْتُهُمْ، وَإِنَّهُمْ حَدَّثُونِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وَانْسُكُوا لَهَا، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا ثَلَاثِينَ، فَإِنْ شَهِدَ شَاهِدَانِ، فَصُومُوا وَأَفْطِرُوا .
Urdu Translation
انہوں نے ایک ایسے دن میں جس میں شک تھا ( کہ رمضان کی پہلی تاریخ ہے یا شعبان کی آخری ) لوگوں سے خطاب کیا تو کہا :سنو! میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے صحابہ کی ہم نشینی کی، اور میں ان کے ساتھ بیٹھا تو میں نے ان سے سوالات کئے، اور انہوں نے مجھ سے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم چاند دیکھ کر روزہ رکھو، اور چاند دیکھ کر افطار کرو، اور اسی طرح حج بھی کرو، اور اگر تم پر مطلع ابر آلود ہو تو تیس ( کی گنتی ) پوری کرو، ( اور ) اگر دو گواہ ( چاند دیکھنے کی ) شہادت دے دیں تو روزے رکھو، اور افطار ( یعنی عید ) کرو۔
English Translation
Meaning of the narration
He addressed the people on the day concerning which there was doubt (as to whether the month had begun) and said: I sat with the Companions of the Messenger of Allah and asked them, and they a narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Fast when you see it and stop fasting when you see it, and perform the rites on that basis. If it is obscured, then complete thirty days, and if two witnesses testify then fast and stop fasting.
