Narrated by: Abu Hurairah رضی الله عنہ narrated that:
ہمیں محمد بن عبد الاعلیٰ نے خبر دی، کہا: ہمیں خالد —یعنی ابن الحارث— نے بیان کیا، کہا: ہمیں ہشام نے یحییٰ بن ابی کثیر سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا: مجھے ابو سلمہ بن عبد الرحمٰن نے بیان کیا، کہا: ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کا بیان ہے کہ

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: لَا تُنْكَحُ الْأَيِّمُ حَتَّى تُسْتَأْمَرَ، وَلَا تُنْكَحُ الْبِكْرُ حَتَّى تُسْتَأْذَنَ ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ إِذْنُهَا ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَسْكُتَ .
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: A previously married woman should not be married until her consent has been sought, and a virgin should not be married until her permission has been sought. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is her permission? He said: If she remains silent.
Urdu Translation
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”بیوہ کی شادی نہ کی جائے جب تک کہ اس سے مشورہ نہ لے لیا جائے اور کنواری لڑکی کی شادی نہ کی جائے جب تک کہ اس کی اجازت نہ لے لی جائے“، لوگوں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! اس کی اجازت کیسے جانی جائے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اس کا خاموش رہنا“ ( ہی اس کی اجازت ہے ) ۔

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ: حَضَرْنَا مَعَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ جَنَازَةَ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِسَرِفَ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: هَذِهِ مَيْمُونَةُ إِذَا رَفَعْتُمْ جَنَازَتَهَا فَلَا تُزَعْزِعُوهَا وَلَا تُزَلْزِلُوهَا، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ مَعَهُ تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ فَكَانَ يَقْسِمُ لِثَمَانٍ، وَوَاحِدَةٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَقْسِمُ لَهَا .
We attended the funeral of Maimunah رضی اللہ عنہا , the wife of the Prophet, with Ibn 'Abbas رضی اللہ عنہما in Sarif. Ibn 'Abbas رضی اللہ عنہا said: 'This is Maimunah رضی اللہ عنہا ; when you lift up her bier, do not rock it nor shake it. The Messenger of Allah had nine wives and he used to give a share of his time to eight of them and not to one.'
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas رضی الله عنہما said:
أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ يُصِيبُهُنَّ، إِلَّا سَوْدَةَ، فَإِنَّهَا وَهَبَتْ يَوْمَهَا وَلَيْلَتَهَا لِعَائِشَةَ .
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died he had nine wives; he used to be intimate with all of them except one, who had given her day and night to 'Aishah رضی اللہ عنہا .
Anas رضی الله عنہ narrated that:
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، أَنَّ أَنَسًا حَدَّثَهُمْ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَطُوفُ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْوَاحِدَةِ، وَلَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ .
The Prophet ﷺ used to go around to his wives in a single night, and at that time he had nine wives.
It was narrated that 'Aishah رضی الله عنہا said:
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ الْمُخَرَّمِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: كُنْتُ أَغَارُ عَلَى اللَّاتِي وَهَبْنَ أَنْفُسَهُنَّ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَقُولُ: أَوَتَهَبَ الْحُرَّةُ نَفْسَهَا، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ[ سورة الأحزاب آية 51]، قُلْتُ: وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَى رَبَّكَ إِلَّا يُسَارِعُ لَكَ فِي هَوَاكَ .
I used to feel jealous of those (women) who offered themselves (in marriage) to the Prophet ﷺ and I said: 'Would a free woman offer herself?' Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: 'You can postpone whom you will of them, and you may receive whom you will.' I said: 'By Allah, I see that your Lord is quick to respond to your wishes.'
