Zakat FAQ

What is Nisab for Zakat?

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before Zakat becomes obligatory. It equals 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Most scholars recommend using the lower threshold (silver) to benefit more recipients.

What is the Zakat rate?

Zakat is 2.5% (1/40th) of your total zakatable wealth that has been held for one full lunar year (Hawl).

What assets are subject to Zakat?

Zakat is due on cash, gold, silver, stocks, business inventory, and other liquid assets. Personal items like your home, car, and clothing are generally exempt.

When should I pay Zakat?

Zakat should be paid once a year when your wealth has remained above Nisab for a full lunar year. Many Muslims pay during Ramadan for extra reward.
