الفَجۡرِ

Ayah 89:1
وَٱلْفَجْرِ١
By the dawn
Ayah 89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ٢
And [by] ten nights1
Ayah 89:3
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ٣
And [by] the even [number] and the odd
Ayah 89:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ٤
And [by] the night when it passes,
Ayah 89:5
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ٥
Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?1
Ayah 89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ٦
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ʿAad -
Ayah 89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ٧
[With] Iram1 - who had lofty pillars,2
Ayah 89:8
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ٨
The likes of whom had never been created in the land?
Ayah 89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ٩
And [with] Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
Ayah 89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ١٠
And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?1
Ayah 89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ١١
[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
Ayah 89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ١٢
And increased therein the corruption.
Ayah 89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ١٣
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
Ayah 89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ١٤
Indeed, your Lord is in observation.
Ayah 89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ١٥
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."1
Ayah 89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ١٦
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
Ayah 89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ١٧
No!1 But you do not honor the orphan
Ayah 89:18
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ١٨
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
Ayah 89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا١٩
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,1
Ayah 89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا٢٠
And you love wealth with immense love.
