Ayah 71:1
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ١
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."
Ayah 71:2
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ٢
He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -
Ayah 71:3
أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ٣
To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.
Ayah 71:4
يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ٤
He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."
Ayah 71:5
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا٥
He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.
Ayah 71:6
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا٦
But my invitation increased them not except in flight [i.e., aversion].
Ayah 71:7
وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا ٱسْتِكْبَارًا٧
And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments,1 persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.
Ayah 71:8
ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا٨
Then I invited them publicly.
Ayah 71:9
ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا٩
Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
Ayah 71:10
فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا١٠
And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.
Ayah 71:11
يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا١١
He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers
Ayah 71:12
وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًا١٢
And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.
Ayah 71:13
مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا١٣
What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allāh [due] grandeur
Ayah 71:14
وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا١٤
While He has created you in stages?1
Ayah 71:15
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا١٥
Do you not consider how Allāh has created seven heavens in layers1
Ayah 71:16
وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا١٦
And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?
Ayah 71:17
وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا١٧
And Allāh has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.
Ayah 71:18
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا١٨
Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction.
Ayah 71:19
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا١٩
And Allāh has made for you the earth an expanse
Ayah 71:20
لِّتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا٢٠
That you may follow therein roads of passage.'"
